Sri Lanka’s Laksala opens franchise showroom in Dubai to attract Middle Eastern consumers

Sri Lanka’s Laksala has signed a deal to promote local products in the Middle Eastern region in order to boost foreign exchange earnings to the country as well as help rural artisans.
Laksala has signed a franchise agreement with Sala Global Ltd. to open a Laksala outlet in the United Arab Emirates, which is considered the mega hub for the Middle East.
The initiative to sign up franchise arrangements overseas was promoted by Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Batik, Handloom and Local Apparel Production Dayasiri Jayasekera.
Laksala last month signed the first overseas franchise with Boom Lanka Batik and Gifts LLC-USA to promote local products in Miami, USA.
Now, Sala Global will set up a franchise showroom spanning 200 square feet in Dubai and will exclusively market Laksala products.
Laksala product portfolio includes handicrafts, batik, handloom items, apparel, tea, coffee, beverages, spices, organic products, canned/bottled and processed food, cosmetics, Ayurvedic products and other products.
The signing and opening of the franchise showroom comes ahead of Dubai Expo 2021 which opens in October.
State Minister Jayasekera has said the franchise showrooms will introduce truly Sri Lankan traditional products to the international market and thereby strengthen the “people-centric economy.”

OSL take:

Sri Lanka is engaged in a programme to expand exports of local products. It is in this backdrop that the local authorities have taken measures to look at new avenues to further promote local products in the global market. The many trade agreements and concessions enjoyed by the country have further boosted Sri Lanka’s exports sector. Sri Lanka’s manufacturing and exports sectors have shown a growth momentum despite the challenges posed by the global Covid 19 pandemic. Given the growing business potential as well as the trade agreements that assist in local products reaching foreign markets at competitive prices, foreign businesses/investors could explore the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka’s local manufacturing sector.
