Sri Lankan Minister promotes investments at Asia-Pacific Conference on ‘Belt and Road Cooperation’
Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has reportedly pointed out the country’s policy focus and thrust on sustainable development with renewable energy as a national priority.
The Minister has made this observation while addressing the Asia-Pacific High Level Conference on ‘Belt and Road Cooperation’ virtually.
While emphasising that coordinated efforts at combating the virus, early recovery from the pandemic, and people-centred development would contribute productively to economic advancement in the future, Gunawardena has reportedly invited all countries to avail of the opportunities available in Sri Lanka for investment in important growth-prone sectors.
The Minister has referred to the emerging Colombo Port City project, port infrastructure in Colombo and in Hambantota as well as key industrial zones.
He has further underlined the critical importance of connectivity for achieving prosperity in the region and of integrating green development and environmental protection into national planning and programming of all states.

Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian ocean and the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed by the country have made it an emerging business destination in the South Asian region. This has also placed the country in a prominent position in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Given the resilience shown by Sri Lanka’s economy even amidst the pandemic, foreign businesses/investors could explore the growing business/investment opportunities in the country.
