Sri Lankan government to grant 49 percent stake and management of SriLankan Airlines to private partner
The Sri Lankan government has reportedly said that it is prepared to grant 49 percent of the equity of the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines together with its management to a private partner.
The statement has been made by Sri Lanka’s Public Enterprise Development Minister Lakshman Kiriella to the local media.
The Minister has said a consultant had been appointed to make recommendations for the restructuring of the national carrier.
“With regard to the equity we will retain 51 percent of the shares,” Kiriella has noted.
According to the Minister, the airline would be restructured on the basis of a Private Public Partnership (PPP) as envisaged by this government.
OSL take:
The announcement that Sri Lanka’s national carrier, SriLankan Airlines, is open to engage in a PPP is an investment opportunity for foreign businesses/investors interested in the aviation industry.
