Sri Lanka to attract British tourists at World Trade Market 2021
Sri Lanka has made a fresh push to attract British tourists to the country at the World Trade Market (WTM) 2021 in London, which opened on 1 November.
According to reports, WTM London is expected to be a key point this year, as one of the travel sector’s first major live events on the road to recovery.
Sri Lanka Tourism Chairperson Kimarli Fernando and some of the industry leaders had attended the launch of Sri Lanka Pavilion at WTM 2021, which is tipped as the biggest travel and tourism fair since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sri Lanka Tourism has reportedly participated in a series of promotional activities at several top travel events in France and the UK. The first of the promotional campaigns was the International French Travel Mart (IFTM) Top Resa in Paris last month, followed by the ongoing World Travel Mart in London.

Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities are currently engaged in promoting the country’s tourism industry in key foreign source markets. The country’s tourism industry is once again on the path to recovery after facing the pandemic challenges. There has been a steady growth in tourist arrivals to the country. Tourism authorities are also focused on exploring new tourism concepts to woo tourists to the country. Sri Lanka has been listed as a must visit destination by several leading global travel publications and has also been slotted among the Top 10 island destinations. Also, the country’s airports have received the internationally recognised safety and hygiene certifications. All these have addes to Sri Lanka’s attraction as a post Covid travel destination. Given the expansion in the country’s tourism industry, international hospitality brands have expressed interest in investing in Sri Lanka while investments continue to flow to the tourism industry. Foreign businesses/investors could explore the growing business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
