Sri Lanka records nearly 16,500 tourist arrivals between October 1st and 24th

Sri Lanka’s Tourism Ministry has stated that the country has recorded nearly 16,500 tourist arrivals between 1 and 24 October.
The Tourism Ministry has reportedly released the initial arrival figures. Industry sources have said the number was the highest for a 24-day period. “If the trend continues, October is likely to record the highest monthly arrivals for this year,” authorities have been quoted as saying.
According to reports, September had witnessed the highest arrival of 13,547 tourists thereby boosting the first nine months’ figure to over 54,768.
Statistics have further revealed that a majority of these tourists were from India, the UK, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Germany, Maldives, Canada, France, the US, and Indonesia.
“With the easing of travel restrictions, there is a growing interest from global travellers to visit the country,” Sri Lanka’s Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has been quoted as saying.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry was one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the country when the global Covid 19 pandemic brought about global travel restrictions. However, Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is now on the path to recovery recording a steady growth in tourist arrivals to the country. The global tourism promotion carried out by Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities together with the continuous search for new tourism concepts have helped boost the island as an attractive tourist destination. Also, the internationally recognised safety and hygiene certifications received by Sri Lanka’s airports have made the island a safe post Covid travel destination. Many international leisure and hospitality brands have expressed interest in entering the country. Given the expanding tourism industry, foreign businesses/investors could explore the growing opportunities in the industry.
