Sri Lanka to launch promotional campaign in Thailand to draw visitors from short haul markets

The government of Sri Lanka has reportedly planned to launch a promotional campaign in Thailand as part of measures to draw visitors from short haul markets.
Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities are currently engaged in drawing up short to long term campaigns to help the country’s tourism industry bounce back after the Easter Sunday attacks last month.
The new campaign kicks off in Thailand with the Ministry of Tourism Development offering to bear the full participation cost of 20 Sri Lanka destination management companies at two travel events there.
“Consequent to the recent downturn in arrivals following the Easter Sunday attacks, Sri Lanka Tourism has planned a series of short term promotional programmes to attract tourists from short haul markets,” a statement has noted.
“These promotional programmes are being carried out on the strength of security assurances given by the defence authorities that all necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of tourists.”
As part of this strategy, Sri Lanka Tourism is planning to conduct promotional campaigns in source markets closest to the country.
“Thailand which shares a close relationship with Sri Lanka especially through Buddhism has been selected as the first country to carry out the new series of promotional campaigns,” the statement has further noted.
Sri Lanka Tourism will also take part in THAIFEX 2019 and World of Food – Asia in Thailand later this month.
The two events, which will take place from 27th May to 1st June, are popular travel events in Asia, expected to be patronized by 65,000 visitors this year.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is engaged in a promotional campaign to further boost the sector. The sector is expected to bounce back from the negative impact from the Easter Sunday bombings with the next three months.
