Discussions centered on investment climate reforms, including the introduction of a digital Single Window Investment Approval System, the proposed Investment Protection Bill, and modernization of customs and industrial zones.
Both sides also highlighted the significance of continued preferential market access under the EU’s GSP+ scheme, which expires at the end of 2026, and explored opportunities for cooperation under the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.
The meeting concluded with reflections on near‑term priorities and reaffirmed the commitment to deepen the European–Sri Lankan partnership.

The high-level investment dialogue between Sri Lanka and the European Union in Colombo recently has brought together senior Sri Lankan officials and European diplomats to discuss economic reforms, market access and the future of bilateral economic cooperation. The engagement comes as Sri Lanka seeks to strengthen its position as an attractive destination for international capital. Its strategic location in the Indian Ocean, access to regional markets, improving infrastructure and expanding services sector provide a strong foundation for European companies looking to establish or expand operations in South Asia. Business/investment opportunities are emerging across renewable energy, tourism, logistics, ports, manufacturing, agriculture, technology, financial services and digital industries. European companies can also benefit from Sri Lanka’s potential as a platform for accessing wider Asian and Indian Ocean markets. For European businesses/investors, Sri Lanka therefore offers opportunities beyond traditional trade. As reforms progress and the economy expands, the country is increasingly positioned to offer new investment ventures, regional partnerships and long-term growth opportunities in a market seeking to transform itself into a competitive regional hub.
