South Korean firms conducting pre-feasibility study on LRT systems for Sri Lankan government
The government of Sri Lanka has reportedly assigned two South Korean engineering consultancy firms to conduct a pre-feasibility study for six planned Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems linking the capital Colombo with the suburbs.
A spokesperson has been reported in the media as saying the Cabinet of ministers has decided to award the contract for consultancy services for the pre-feasibility study and feasibility study to Seoyoung Engineering Co. Ltd. and Saman Corporation.
The contract is to cost Rs. 202 million.
The planned LRT systems are aimed at catering anticipated passenger traffic in the proposed Western region ‘Megapolis’ urban agglomeration.
Seoyoung Engineering Co. Ltd. and Saman Corporation have been involved in consultancy services for key infrastructure projects such as highways and transportation.
