Salam Air of Oman commences direct flights between Colombo and Muscat this month

The fastest-growing value-for-money airline from Oman, Salam Air, has reportedly announced the commencement of direct flights between Colombo to Muscat.
The Muscat-Colombo direct route marks Salam Air’s first entry into the Sri Lankan market.
According to reports, the Airline now flies to seven destination in the subcontinent, including Colombo, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot and Chattogram (Chittagong).
Reports further state that the route is scheduled to operate four times a week – on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing Colombo.
Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of Salam Air has been quoted as saying in the local media, “Introduction of flights between Colombo and Muscat would contribute to further growth and strengthening of ties between Oman and Sri Lanka. It would also cater to the leisure and business travellers from and to Oman and Sri Lanka.”
He has further noted, “We will continue to expand our network to meet the requirements of our guests. It is our constant endeavour to provide affordable and proficient services to all destinations we fly.”
Andre Fernando, Chairman/Managing Director of MAC Aviation Services Pvt. Ltd. (Fully owned subsidiary of MAC Holdings Pvt. Ltd.) GSA for Salam Air in Sri Lanka has stated, “We would be providing a variety of services to support the airline and the discerning customer, choosing Salam Air as its preferred carrier to Muscat. The new route to the incredibly beautiful city of Muscat, further solidifies the close links between Oman and Sri Lanka.”

Given the growth and expansion of Sri Lanka’s trade and tourism sectors, there has been an increase in the number of foreign airlines arriving in the country. Sri Lanka continues to maintain the top slot as the destination of the year in several key global travel publications and there is a continuous increase in tourist arrivals to the country. Also, Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean, the ease of doing business environment in the country and the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed by the country have made it an attractive business destination in the South Asian region.
