Polish delegation visits Sri Lanka in a bid to boost bilateral and trade ties
Sri Lanka and Poland are looking at further strengthening bilateral and trade ties between the two countries with the arrival of a team of top officials and members of the private sector from Warsaw.
Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Poland Maciej Lang, who arrived in Colombo on Monday (4), has reportedly said the Polish and Sri Lankan business community had huge untapped potential to further strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties.
“One of the major objectives of my visit to Sri Lanka is to strengthen our economic relations. I am convinced that there is immense untapped potential between the two countries to explore,” he has been quoted as saying at a business forum and business to business (B2B) meeting held with the Polish business delegation hosted by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB).
According to reports, the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) and the Polish Chamber of Commerce (KIG) have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the event to establish close B2B contacts, which is crucial to explore private sector trade and investment opportunities in both countries.
With the commencement of LOT Polish Airlines’ new connectivity from Warsaw to Colombo, the Deputy Foreign Minister has noted that establishment of close B2B contacts was crucial to both countries as they look to expand.
“Bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation between our countries has grown from strength to strength over the years. We are confident of further strengthening economic relations as the vision of both countries is to create a solid basis for new development,” he has added.
Reports have further stated that bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Poland has grown rapidly from around US$ 19 million in 2015 to US$ 190 million in 2018.

The further renewal of bilateral and trade ties between Sri Lanka and Poland will result in the increase of bilateral trade between the two countries that are currently on a growth path. LOT Polish Airlines this week commenced direct flights between Poland and Sri Lanka further promoting trade and tourism between the two countries. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean, the ease of doing business environment in the country and the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed by the country have made it an ideal business destination in the South Asian region.
