Korean government provides US$ 30 million concessionary loan to boost Sri Lanka’s ICT education

The government of Sri Lanka is to receive a concessionary loan of US$ 30 million (approximately Rs.5,460 million) from the government of the Republic of Korea to establish A National Center of e-Content Development for Computer Assisted Teaching in Sri Lanka.
The objectives of the proposed project are to Improve ICT teaching and learning environment for secondary education in Sri Lanka, enhance teachers’ ICT education capacity, and provide equal opportunity for education for every student including those living in rural areas, the local media has reported.
Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education is to execute the project and the Ministry also plans to expand ICT training facilities to provide education, using ICT technologies such as e-learning services and ICT training.
Also in line with the plan, it has been proposed to establish a fully equipped National Contents Development Center (NCDC) in the North Western Province as well as two Provincial ICT Education Centers (PICTEC) in the Eastern and Southern Provinces.

As stated in the news story above, Sri Lanka has received financial assistance to develop the ICT sector in the country through education.
