OSL take:
Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic activities and the overall economic expansion have resulted in the expansion of many key economic sectors in the country. The agriculture industry is one such sector that has shown a steady growth as well as a growing demand. Given that Sri Lanka’s agriculture industry has two key sectors – consumption crop cultivation and export crop cultivation – there are multiple business/investment opportunities that cover the industry. The expanding opportunities in the agriculture industry cover many direct and indirect opportunities that range from the supply of seeds and fertilizer to the providing of expertise, technical knowhow as well as machinery. Also, the opportunities include the development of infrastructure and supplementary infrastructure facilities. With Sri Lanka working towards becoming a hub in the South Asian region and the increasing demand, foreign businesses/investors could explore the expanding opportunities in the local agriculture industry. The expansion programmes of local agriculture sector businesses and the interest shown by foreign businesses to do business in Sri Lanka’s agriculture industry are a firm indication that the industry is fast becoming a hotspot for business/investment opportunities.
