India wants to take relationship with Sri Lanka to higher levels in the economic sphere
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India wants to further strengthen its relationship with Sri Lanka by taking bilateral relations to a higher level particularly in the economic sphere.
Modi has made this observation in a statement extending warm felicitations to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the independence of Sri Lanka.
“Relations between our two countries, anchored in our shared history and culture, have grown over the years to become truly multifaceted. It is our shared responsibility and aspiration to further strengthen these bonds,” the Indian Prime Minister has said.
“I look forward to continue working with you to take our relationship to higher levels, particularly in the economic sphere, for the mutual benefit of the people of our countries. Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and best wishes for your good health, personal wellbeing and the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Sri Lanka,” Modi has added.
OSL take:
The statement by the Indian Prime Minister to further strengthen economic ties with Sri Lanka in the backdrop of increasing the Indian government’s budgetary allocations for the island nation are positive indications of the advantageous position Sri Lanka holds in doing business with India. Sri Lanka already has a free trade agreement (FTA) with India. Foreign investors looking at doing business with India could use the opportunities available in Sri Lanka to use the country as a base to enter the Indian market.
