OSL take:
The launch of direct flights between Colombo and Ahmedabad by FitsAir comes at a time when economic ties between Sri Lanka and India are gaining momentum, creating significant business/investment opportunities for Indian businesses/investors. As Sri Lanka continues on its economic recovery and growth path, sectors such as tourism, hospitality, renewable energy, infrastructure, logistics, information technology, manufacturing, healthcare, and education offer strong investment potential. Sri Lanka’s strategic location along major Indian Ocean shipping routes, investor-friendly reforms, and access to regional markets make it an attractive destination for Indian companies seeking international expansion. The country’s growing demand for infrastructure development, digital transformation, and sustainable energy solutions aligns well with India’s strengths in these sectors. Indian businesses/investors can also benefit from opportunities in export-oriented manufacturing, port and logistics services, and tourism-related ventures, supported by increasing visitor flows between the two countries. The success of several Indian enterprises already operating in Sri Lanka demonstrates the viability of the market and highlights the potential for further investment and collaboration. Additionally, the deepening economic relationship between the two nations is creating avenues for joint ventures between Sri Lankan and Indian companies, enabling technology transfer, market access, and shared growth. Enhanced air connectivity, such as the new Colombo-Ahmedabad service, is expected to further strengthen business engagement, facilitate trade, and encourage greater investment flows between Sri Lanka and Western India.
