First direct Charter Flight from Prague to Colombo inaugurated

Newswire: Direct charter flights from Prague to Colombo were inaugurated with the first-ever direct flight from the Czech Republic to Sri Lanka taking off on October 24 from the Prague International Airport.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Vienna said LOT Polish Airlines operates these direct charter flights every Tuesday starting from 24 October 2023 until 26 March 2024 with Boeing 787 Dreamliners configured for 251 passengers.
It is expected that these flights will attract around 5,800 tourists from the Czech Republic to Sri Lanka during this winter season. The new direct route will significantly reduce travel time to 10 hours one-way.
In coordination with the Sri Lanka embassy in Vienna, Austria, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) has established a partnership with Čedok, a leading travel services provider established in 1920 in the Czech Republic on a co-marketing campaign, parallel to the commencement of direct charter flights.
The Counsellor of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Vienna, and Chargé d’ Affaires for Czechia, Charitha Weerasinghe joined the ceremony to mark the inauguration of direct charter flights organized by Čedok and LOT Polish Airlines at Prague Airport.
Čedok CEO Stanislav Zeman, Executive Director of Prague Airport Jiri Vyskoc, Spokesperson of LOT Polish Airlines Krzysztof Moczulski, Sri Lanka Honourary Consul in Czechia Marek Nĕmec and several electronic and print media were also present at the ceremony.

OSL take:
The steady increase in the number of foreign travelers to Sri Lanka has resulted in an increase in the number of flights operated by international airlines to the country. The increase in foreign travelers is also indicative of the expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism, airport and aviation industries. The government of Sri Lanka has already launched several development programmers covering these industries and foreign businesses/investors could explore the opportunities in engaging in these development programmers as well as the development of supplementary infrastructure facilities required by these industries to keep up with the growing demand. The growth and profits recorded by local businesses engaged in these industries indicates the growing business potential in Sri Lanka’s tourism, airport and aviation industries. Apart from exploring the opportunities in these industries, foreign businesses could also look at forming partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses engaged in these sectors with the aim of further expansion.
