APIIT Sri Lanka to expand operations with a modern campus in Kandy under BOI agreement
Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment (BOI) has recently entered into an agreement with the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) to expand its operation with a modern Campus in Kandy.
The agreement was reportedly signed by BOI Chairman Eng. Raja Edirisuriya and APIIT Chairman Bandula Egodage.
According to reports, APIIT Kandy, will be developed as a modern learner centric, technology empowered teaching/learning centre consisting of modern, state-of-the-art classrooms. The new premises feature a moot court and a recreational area with a pool table and casual seating. A library with the capacity to hold 5,000 books, features an independent study area, a casual reading area equipped with facilities to access e-resources and with the entire campus being Wi-Fi enabled.
A news release by APIIT Sri Lanka noted that it was incorporated in September 1999 in partnership with APIIT Education Group in Malaysia and Staffordshire University in the UK, with the objective of increasing access to internationally recognised higher education qualifications for Sri Lankan students.
APIIT Sri Lanka also has partnerships with Pearson Education, UK and Deakin University, Australia. APIIT has also partnered with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), offering a prestigious DBA programme. The NCUK International Foundation Year is also on offer.

Sri Lanka’s higher education sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country in line with the increasing economic expansion in the country. Sri Lanka’s ongoing development programme, its geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the many trade agreements as well as concessions enjoyed by the country have helped promote the country as a growing business destination in the region. Local authorities are currently focused on increasing the country’s skilled human resources. Foreign educational institutions could therefore explore the growing business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s higher education sector.
