Wind Force inaugurates Hiruras Wind Power Plant in Mannar

Daily FT: Mannar, Sri Lanka has witnessed history as the Hiruras Wind Power Plant of Wind Force PLC was inaugurated.
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera led the event, marking a significant stride in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy journey.
Notable attendees included State Minister Indika Anuruddha, Ministry of Power officials, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) representatives, Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) and other Local Government officials, emphasizing the collaborative effort towards a greener future.
With a total capacity of 15 MW across two phases, the project reflected dedication in harnessing clean energy sources.
The first 10 MW phase began operations on 12 June 2023, followed by the 5 MW second phase on 21 July 2023, showcasing their unwavering commitment to sustainability.
The inauguration underscored a leap towards eco-conscious energy solutions and Sri Lanka’s transition to cleaner energy, setting a commendable example for global sustainable development.

Sri Lanka’s power industry, especially the renewable energy generation sector, has become a hot spot for business/investment opportunities in the country. The increasing demand for power in line with the overall economic activities and the decision of the government of Sri Lanka to increase the country’s renewable energy generation capacity, have all increased the business/investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The growth and profits recorded by the local businesses engaged in the sector are indicative of the overall business potential in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector. Given the interest shown by large scale foreign players in the renewable energy sector to enter the Sri Lankan market, foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the expanding opportunities in the sector. They could also look at forming partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses engaged in the industry with the aim of expanding operations.
