OSL take:
Sri Lanka’s logistics sector has become an emerging business/investment opportunity in the country with the overall economic expansion recorded by Sri Lanka, especially in the maritime and trade industries. The steady growth recorded by the local maritime industry and the trade sector have resulted in the need for expansion in the logistics sector in its local and international operations. Given Sri Lanka’s target of becoming a regional hub, it is imperative to ensure that Sri Lanka’s logistics sector is on par with global standards. The move to utilize electric forklifts as part of a globally accepted green concept by Sri Lankan logistics businesses indicates an emerging business/investment opportunity for foreign businesses to explore in the local logistics sector, especially in introducing the latest technologies in-place. As pointed out on many occasions, the ongoing economic expansion that covers many key economic sectors also indicates a steadily growing need for sectors like logistics to evolve and provide a value-added service to their local and foreign clients to sustain existing operations and to expand them locally and internationally. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s logistics sector while also looking at forming partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses in the sector in order to expand operations locally and internationally.
