OSL take:
Sri Lanka’s economy has shown great resilience to internal and external challenges through the years and is once again on the growth path after facing the many challenges posed by the global pandemic a few years ago and the economic crisis that followed. The ongoing economic activities coupled with Sri Lanka’s target of becoming an emerging business destination in the South Asian region have made Sri Lanka an attractive business venue for many foreign businesses/investors. The country’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed with other countries have added to Sri Lanka’s attraction as a destination for foreign businesses to set up base in order to engage with other countries in the region. It is in such a backdrop that many foreign businesses/investors continue to visit Sri Lanka to explore business/investment opportunities including in the Colombo Port City project. The Port City project, which has been promoted by former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, presents a special economic zone for foreign businesses/investors. Given the growth and business potential in Sri Lanka, foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the growing opportunities in the country.
