Travel Agents Association of India to host Annual Convention in Sri Lanka
The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) is reportedly looking at hosting their Annual Convention in Sri Lanka later this year.
Over 400 industry leaders and media delegates are expected to attend the annual sessions scheduled to be held from 11th to 13th November in Colombo.
The decision to hold the TAAI Convention in Colombo this year is an outcome of Sri Lanka’s Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, John Amaratunga’s invitation to the Indian Travel Agents in the aftermath of the April tragedy to show solidarity by holding the convention in Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka’s state owned Daily News has reported.
President, TAAI, Sunil Kumar has reportedly said the Managing Committee of the association at a meeting on 30th September in Hyderabad had agreed and approved to hold the convention in Sri Lanka as an expression of solidarity.
The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, CCHTA and Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators have welcomed the convention being held in Sri Lanka.
Led by Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, both the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau are working together to provide the necessary support for a successful convention.
OSL take:
The holding of the annual convention of the Travel Agents Association of India in Sri Lanka would have a positive impact on the country’s tourism industry. Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has shown an impressive return to normalcy following the setback suffered in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks in April. The country’s tourism sector is on a continuous growth path and Sri Lanka continues to maintain the top slot as the destination of the year in several key global travel publications. All these have resulted in the expansion of business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
