Thai Ambassador pledges support to Sri Lanka’s business endeavours

The Morning: Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka Poj Harnpol pledged support to the private sector with respect to future business endeavours and the people of Sri Lanka at large.
He made this statement during a courtesy call on Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Raja Edirisuriya and Director General Renuka M. Weerakone at the BOI headquarters to discuss the current investment environment in the country.
At the outset, the envoy commended the efforts of the incumbent Government led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to regain political and economic stability and stressed the importance of maintaining such. Meanwhile, the BOI Chairman expressed sincere gratitude for the concern of the delegation on behalf of the Government of Thailand and for their readiness to assist Sri Lanka in challenging times.The Ambassador stated: “We are eager and looking forward to supporting Sri Lanka and thereby strengthening the ties and broadening our collaboration.”
The envoy was accompanied by Minister Counsellor Arthit Prasartkul and First Secretary Preeyanit Lumjiak.

Sri Lanka and Thailand enjoy a historical bond that spans several centuries. Apart from business and trade, ties between the two countries have also extended to religious ties as well. Sri Lanka is also in the process of further strengthening its existing trade ties while also looking at new ties based on business and trade. It is in such a backdrop that the Thai envoy in Sri Lanka has pledged support to further develop ties between the two countries. Sri Lanka is also working on becoming an emerging business destination in the South Asian region supported by the country’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the strong trade ties enjoyed by the country. Therefore, businesses/investors in Thailand could explore the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka and vice versa. Given the strong ties enjoyed by Sri Lanka with country’s in the Asian region, the island presents an attractive destination for foreign businesses to set up base in Sri Lanka to engage with other countries in the region. Foreign businesses could therefore confidently explore the growing business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.
