Conversion of Petrol Three Wheelers to Electric Vehicles
In partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Department of Motor Traffic, UNDP, wantsto develop a project to convert 500,000 Tuk-Tuksto Electric Vehicles(EV’s) over a period of 5 years. The project has been proposed to take place in 3 phases: Incubation phase (test the conversion of at least 300 tuk-tuks), Demonstration phase (support conversions) and Acceleration phase (utilize the market forcesfor conversion via concessional financing & infrastructure development).
3 locations have already been identified for the Incubation Phase: Pettah, Mukumburah & Katunayaka. For each location, 100 petrol vehicles are to be converted and the respective list of individual owners will be provided to the successfulsuppliers. It aimsto demonstrate conversions with a daily range of 80 – 100 km persingle charge via domestic and commercial charging stations.
