Sri Lanka’s tourism sector earns US$ 2.3 billion during first eight months of 2019

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has reportedly stated that Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has recorded earnings amounting to an estimated US$ 2,380 million during the first eight months of 2019 compared to US$ 2,971 million earned during the corresponding period of 2018.
Earnings from tourism were reportedly estimated at US$ 270 million in August 2019, in comparison to US$ 376 million in August 2018.
Tourist arrivals have recorded a steady increase showing a recovery from the impact of the Easter Sunday attacks in April.
Accordingly, arrivals have increased by 24.1% to 143,587 in August 2019 from 115,701 in July 2019.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is one of the most promising economic sectors that have shown continuous growth in the past few years. The sector has shown an impressive return to normalcy following the setback suffered in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks in April. Sri Lanka continues to maintain the top slot as the destination of the year in several key international travel publications.
