Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities line up series of promotional activities to market the country

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is reportedly preparing a number of aggressive tourism promotions to be carried out in 12 markets by next January.
Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) Chairman Kishu Gomes has told the Business Times that by January 22 promotional activities in 12 countries will be implemented.
He has stated that currently some are with the procurement process and the Terms of Reference on development level in respect of a number of other activities to be activated in the respective markets.
Out of 22 activities the board needs to approve only three more, he noted adding that they have lined up advertising in cinemas for the first time in India as most of the population there are film goers.
According to Gomes, the promotion bureau will be carrying out a stringent look back on the promotion efforts carried out and ensure a strategic proposal would be established to implement the goals for next year.
He has explained they have been carrying out a review of the success and failure of strategy and action plan implemented in the past in a bid to understand what works and what does not.
In addition a study of the market dynamics of each target market both current and new ones is to be undertaken so as to have an understanding of the consumer, the competition, market trends to make fact based decisions.
Moreover, they would be presenting and discussing with the internal team or teams for further input and feedback that would ensure a collective knowledge and sharing of best practices is carried out.
Also, a further engagement is to be held with the industry to incorporate its idea to draw from the industry experience to meet their expectations, Gomes has added.

OSL take:

Tourism authorities in Sri Lanka have been engaged in an aggressive promotional campaign to further boost the country’s tourism industry. Sri Lanka also continues to maintain the top slot as the destination of the year in several key global travel publications. All these have resulted in the country returning to normalcy faster than expected following the setback suffered in the Easter Sunday attacks in April. The continuous growth in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has resulted in the expansion of business/investment opportunities in the country’s tourism sector.
