Sri Lanka’s President calls on farmers to grow more grains to boos agriculture sector

Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has called on farmers to grow more grains saying imports have been controlled and they can now earn more money.

The President has made these comments during a public meeting in the country’s North Central Province.

President Rajapaksa had called on farmers to increase their production aiming both local and foreign markets to earn more as imports of grains to eat had been restricted.

The President has asked the farming community to engage themselves in mass cultivation of grains such as Maize, Undu, green bean, cow pea and Kurakkan.

The current situation in the country has created many business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector. The government of Sri Lanka has also provided assistance as well as relief to farmers/businesses engaged in agriculture work. Foreign businesses/investors exploring opportunities in Sri Lanka could look at investing/forming partnerships in the country’s agriculture sector.
