Sri Lanka’s Postal Department to send overseas mail and goods to selected destinations by air and sea

The Postal Department of Sri Lanka has reportedly said that steps have been taken to send overseas mail and goods to few selected destinations by air and sea.
Accordingly, the Aviation Postal Services will send overseas mail and goods by air and sea to the destinations that Sri Lanka’s national carrier, SriLankan Airlines, has commenced services to.
According to the Postal Department, as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, and day to day operations at airports coming to a standstill – foreign mail exchange has been completely non-operational and therefore, mail to foreign destinations will be sent only after ensuring that the destination country operates postal services as well as the air transport facilities under the current conditions.

OSL take:

The decision by Sri Lanka’s Postal Department to resume the delivery of mail and goods overseas to countries where SriLankan Airlines will be flying to would help local businesses to resume business transactions with foreign counterparts and vice versa. Also, foreign businesses could also explore the possibility of introducing new safe modes of transporting mail and goods to Sri Lanka and use it geographical placement to reach out to other Asian countries as well.
