Sri Lanka’s Port City to see opening of Angel Beach uber-luxury beach hotel

Daily FT: Promoters of Angel Beach, the first of its kind uber-luxury hotel and family day beach club, yesterday announced plans to open at the upcoming Port City, Sri Lanka’s future showpiece.
“We are in discussions with international hotel chain operators in Mykonos, Greece,” said the promoters of Angel Beach, the first high-end family day beach club, located at Unawatuna, Galle.
Angel Beach has also been recently rated as the number one new hotel in Sri Lanka recommended for new travellers from India. The accolade was from ‘Travel and Leisure’ India.
The spotlight follows Sri Lanka opening doors to fully vaccinated travellers from India.
The article titled ‘Best New Hotels In Sri Lanka That Travellers From India Can Now Visit’ says: “choose from these latest beach-y retreats, family-friendly resorts, boutique experiences, quaint colonial tea trails or go ‘glamping’ in Sri Lanka like you have never experienced before!” It lists 10 hotels.
In its description of Angel Beach, Travel & Leisure India states: “Tucked away in Unawatuna’s turquoise beaches, Angel Beach combines a wellness-by-day and beach club-by-night vibe. Choose from 11 carefully curated rooms, all just a few steps from the private beach. The property helps curate a personalised day experience where you can choose from private yoga classes to a cooking expedition at a local coconut grove. Spend your evenings at their famous poolside sundowners, complete with live music and free-flowing bubbly.” (Source: https://www.travelandleisureindia.in/stays/best-new-hotels-in-sri-lanka-that-travellers-from-india-can-now-visit/)
In 2019, TripADeal, Australia’s most-awarded online travel agency endorsed Angel Beach offering exclusive packages to the Australian market.
Given the current pandemic-infused restrictions, promoters said Angel Beach will open to the public only when it is safe and allowed to operate by Health authorities whilst strictly following safety guidelines.
Dubbed as a revolutionary addition to Sri Lanka’s travel offering mix, at Angel Beach the guest’s stay becomes focused around the hotel and the experience the hotel can offer, with various activities a family day beach club can offer rather than just a place to sleep and eat.
The property boasts 80 plus luxury day beds, and every day bed equipped with a safe so that day visitors can secure their valuables. It can accommodate 250 guests at any given time, and for special events, including destination weddings, the property can host up to 500 guests.
Promoters of Angel Beach clearly believe that their concept of providing a unique proposition to travellers – a service offering that world-class beach locations such as Bali and Ibiza have made a name for is exactly what the Sri Lankan travel sector needs.
Designed by renowned architect Cyrille Fernando, Angel Beach offers luxurious courtside accommodation for the discerning traveller. It is fitted with the latest amenities and contained inside beautifully designed rooms; guests can expect a cocoon-like retreat.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s Port City project in Colombo is one of the largest development programmes in the country aimed at taking Sri Lanka to the next level of development. Sri Lanka is already on the path to becoming a business hub in the South Asian region. The country’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean, the many trade agreements as well as concessions enjoyed by the country and the business conducive environment have helped boost Sri Lanka’s attraction as a growing business/investment destination. The Colombo Port City while being an attractive business/investment opportunity in the South Asian region, will also help boost Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore the growing business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, especially in the Colombo Port City.
