Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department to introduce e-payments

Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department is set to make arrangements to permit e-payments in a bid to boost convenience for taxpayers.
Commissioner General of the Inland Revenue Department Nadun Guruge has been quoted as saying that this facility will be launched within the next three months whereby the public can pay taxes via credit cards.
At present the Inland Revenue Department offers e-services for registration, filing of returns, checking tax balance and transaction history, etc.
According to reports, the removal and simplification of taxes by the government of Sri Lanka would result in an overall improvement of the ease of doing business environment in the country.
“There will be a reduction in compliance cost as well as saving of time,” Guruge has been quoted as saying in the local media.
Inland Revenue Department officials have said that with increase of turnover threshold for VAT and removal of several other taxes, many will not be required to file quarterly or annual returns and payments.
