Sri Lanka’s Highways Ministry to complete Central Expressway by 2024

The Morning: The Highways Ministry has planned to complete the construction of the third phase of the three-phase Colombo-Kandy Central Expressway by 2024, according to the Highways Ministry.
The second phase section of the Colombo-Kandy Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala was opened to the public last Saturday (15).
Accordingly, when inquired about the construction of the remaining third and final phase, Highways Ministry Secretary R.W.R. Premasiri told The Morning that the construction of the third phase from Pothuhera to Galagedara is scheduled to be completed by 2024. “There was some delay in commencing the construction work of this phase. However, it will be completed by 2024,” he said.
The second phase of the Central Expressway has five interchanges at Mirigama, Nakalagamuwa, Dambokka, Kurunegala, and Yaggapitiya. The Government spent Rs. 149 billion on the construction, which was entirely done by local engineers and contractors.
