OSL take:

The expansion of Hameedia’s into Dubai with the opening of a store is testament to the strength and growth of Sri Lanka’s private sector. Despite the challenging economic conditions experienced in the country at present, the private sector has posted growth and profits indicating the resilience of Sri Lanka’s overall economy. The manufacturing and exports sectors, especially in the apparel industry, have also recorded positive growth rates resulting in local businesses engaged in these sectors recording profits. The many trade agreements and trade concessions enjoyed by the country have also helped boost Sri Lanka’s exports, especially apparel exports. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean has also attracted international attention to the country thereby increasing the country’s appeal as a growing business destination in the region. With an increase in Sri Lanka’s business/investment opportunities – the ongoing challenges have also opened a host of new opportunities – foreign businesses/investors could explore the growing opportunities. They could also look at forming partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses with the aim of expanding operations locally and internationally.
