Sri Lanka’s EDB gets record applications for 24th Presidential Export Awards
Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board (EDB) has received over 300 applications for the Presidential Export Awards for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. This has been noted by the local media as an increased number of submissions compared to previous years.
The Presidential Export Awards is the highest and most prestigious award presented by Sri Lanka’s President to the country’s exporters in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the export sector and to economic development of the country.
The Market Development Division of the EDB has stated that the total number of applications for a year varies from around 130 to 140, but has now received over 150 submissions for each year.
The evaluation of the applications has already commenced and is scheduled to be completed by October.
Although the previous plan was to hold the awards ceremony in October, the EDB has stated that it will be held in November, due to the prevalent Covid 19 situation in the country.
The EDB was unable to hold the Presidential Export Awards for financial year 2019/2020 due to the Covid 19 outbreak and the combined 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 years will be the 24th edition of the award scheme.
According to reports, a total of 12 Overall Awards are to be presented for each financial year 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.
