Sri Lanka’s construction sector explores business opportunities in the African market
Sri Lanka’s embassy in Ethiopia has reportedly announced that construction companies from Sri Lanka that took part in an international exhibition in Ethiopia had an opportunity to forge business links that can pave the way for them to enter the African market.
According to reports, International Construction Consortium (Pvt) Ltd, Saw Engineering (Pvt) Ltd., APS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd that had participated in the Ethio-Con International Construction Exhibition had met counterparts in Ethiopia and Africa.
The international exhibition that attracted over 125 African construction companies was inaugurated by Eng. Aisha Mohammed Mussa, Minister of Construction and Urban Development of Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian minister had said there were vast opportunities for foreign contractors in Ethiopia and Africa and there were incentives for foreign contractors in Ethiopia.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Commission, Sumith Dassanayake addressing the African companies had said Sri Lankan firms have a strong reputation in Asia and Europe and partnering with them would bring mutual benefits.

Sri Lanka’s construction sector has been on a growth path due to the aggressive development programme undertaken by the government of Sri Lanka covering all key economic sectors islandwide. The development programme has also resulted in the increase in value of real estate in the country. All these have resulted in the expansion of business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s construction sector. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore confidently explore business opportunities in Sri Lanka’s construction sector.
