Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment board reconstituted to push for foreign direct investments

The government of Sri Lanka has reconstituted the board of the country’s Board of Investment (BOI) in a bid to make a fresh push for foreign direct investments (FDIs) to the country.

The newly appointed members of the BOI Board had recently met with Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Aviation and Export Zones Development D.V. Chanaka.
The new Board comprises Chairman Eng. Raja A. Edirisuriya, Micro Holdings Ltd. Chairman/CEO Dr. Lawrence Perera, President’s Counsel Kushan D’Alwis, Tantri Trailers Ltd. MD Athula Haputantri, and International Investment Banker Jayamin Pelpola.
According to reports, the purpose of this meeting was to revive the existing investment promotion strategies at the BOI and to make it more effective to attract FDIs to the country.
Chairman Edirisuriya had welcomed the new Board Members and has reportedly stated: “I am confident that the extensive knowledge and the professional background of the new Board Members will ensure a clear and focused strategy to fulfil the aspirations of the BOI as the National Investment Promotion Agency in the country.”
Meanwhile, State Minister Chanaka has said that the focus of the BOI should be Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s vision of fulfilling the Government’s ambitious economic goals under the ‘Vistas of Prosperity’.
The significance of development of the newly proposed Export Processing Zones and Investment facilitation to fast-track the country’s economic goals to the next level was also discussed at the meeting.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s ongoing development programme and the positioning of the country as an emerging business destination in the South Asian region have expanded the business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. The government of Sri Lanka is also focused on promoting the growing opportunities in the country. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the many trade agreements as well as concessions enjoyed by the country have also helped boost Sri Lanka’s attraction as a growing business/investment destination. Foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka.
