Sri Lankan products get stall at Spar Supermarket in Oman

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad has reportedly opened an exclusive stall for Sri Lankan products at the prominent Spar supermarket outlet at Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos in Oman together with the CEO of Spar Oman Sridhar Moosapet. Ameer Ajwad, Spar Divisional Manager for Retail and Services, David Christudoss and Category Manager Dharmvir had also joined the Ambassador during the launch.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman had recently initiated the export of Sri Lankan food products to Spar Supermarkets chain in Oman under the Economic Diplomacy programme of the Foreign Ministry in coordination with Sri Lanka’s Exports Development Board (EDB).
A 20-foot container of consolidated consignment of Sri Lankan food products consisting of Munchee products and Arya food products reached Oman recently under this initiative.
The Embassy had jointly with the EDB facilitated the export of these Sri Lankan food products to Spar Oman, as a first phase, directly from Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. and Tradlanka Agricultural Enterprises Ltd.

This is the first exclusive stall of its kind for Sri Lankan products launched at a supermarket in Oman.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad has reportedly extended his appreciation to the management of Spar Oman for making this exclusive arrangement on his request and this stall is to also facilitate the exhibiting of new Sri Lankan products to consumers in Oman.
According to reports, arrangements will also be made to open such exclusive stalls at the other prominent Spar supermarket outlets in Oman.
Spar Oman is a popular supermarket chain in Oman and the Company runs 75 stores across the Sultanate of Oman.
Sri Lanka Embassy in Muscat under the Economic Diplomacy programme of the Foreign Ministry jointly with the EDB has also organised a B2B virtual meeting recently between Spar Oman and 16 of Lanka’s prominent food and beverages sector companies with a view to promoting export of Sri Lankan products of food and beverages to the Sultanate of Oman.

OSL take:

Foreign markets for Sri Lankan products are expanding given the strong trade ties maintained by the island with foreign markets. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian ocean and the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed by the country have further expanded Sri Lanka’s opportunities in the global trade market. Also, Sri Lanka’s manufacturing and exports sectors have been operational despite the challenges poses by the global Covid 19 pandemic lockdown last year as well as travel restrictions imposed this year. Foreign businesses could therefore explore Sri Lanka’s export product range and look at trade opportunities.
