Sri Lankan government to set up wind power plant in Delft Island in the Northern Province

Sri Lanka’s Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake has reportedly said that a wind power plant would be set-up at Delft Island in the country’s Northern Province in order to provide electricity to the people in the area.
The Minister has made this statement following an observation tour around Jaffna and Delft Island recently.
Karunanayake has noted that nearly 4,500 people are currently living on the island without electricity.
Accordingly, the Minister has added that swift measures would be taken to call for tenders in order to set up a windmill farm on the island.
