Sri Lankan government to launch programmes to improve coconut and rubber cultivation in the country

Sri Lanka’s Plantation Industries Ministry has reportedly received approval for new projects to improve coconut and rubber cultivation and revive production.
The local media has reported quoting a government spokesperson that the projects include production of hybrid coconut seeds, production and distribution of predatory mites to control mite damage and construction of efficient modern smoke houses for drying rubber.
The Cabinet of Ministers has on Tuesday approved the new projects to be implemented from next year.
The Government Information Department has said that the export of products using tea, rubber and coconut had generated earnings of Rs.457.85 billion in 2017.
