Sri Lankan delegation discuss trade and investment opportunities with UAE officials

Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Nalin Bandara along with a delegation comprising officials from both the public and private sector had recently visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and met several important trade partners in the UAE.
The delegation had very fruitful discussions with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as Al-Maya Group and the Lulu Supermarket International.
Sri Lankan delegation included Indira Malwatte, Chairperson and Chief Executive of Sri Lanka Export Development Board and Charitha Yattogoda, Sri Lanka Consul General in Dubai, the state owned English daily, Daily News has reported.
The report further stated that the delegation also comprised of other Government Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Export Development Board, Board of Investment, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, and key private sector partners represent by Secretary General of National Chamber of Exporters and Secretary General of National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka and the immediate past president of Sri Lanka Exporter’s Association.
Both, Sri Lanka and the UAE had presented available trade, tourism and investment opportunities at the Business Forum organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Prasanjith Wijethilake, Executive Director of the Board of Investment had reportedly made a presentation on the opportunities in Sri Lanka for trade, tourism and investment. Ideas were exchanged to create more partnerships on these spheres.
Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister had also invited the Sharjah Chamber to visit Sri Lanka to explore trade and investment opportunities of mutual benefit, which was accepted by Abdalla Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Sri Lankan authorities are engaged in a global drive to promote trade and investments in the island. The country has also participated in many large scale international exhibitions and initiated bilateral trade discussions with many foreign countries. Meanwhile, the government of Sri Lanka is continuously developing the ease of doing business environment in the country. Also, the country’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean along with the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed by the island makes Sri Lanka the ideal business/investment destination in the South Asian region. In this backdrop, the discussions on trade and investments in the UAE would open up business/investment opportunities for businesses in both countries.
