Sri Lanka unveils National Hydrogen Roadmap for Green Energy revolutions

Daily FT: In a bid to achieve a sustainable and greener future, the Power and Energy Ministry unveiled the National Hydrogen Roadmap recently.
The roadmap is a collaborative effort between the Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka (PDASL) and Greenstat Hydrogen India, with the invaluable support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which charts a course for Sri Lanka’s energy landscape transformation.
Recognizing the immense potential of green hydrogen, Sri Lanka is poised to address three pressing socio-economic challenges: energy security and independence, energy affordability and equity, and environmental sustainability.
Green hydrogen, produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources like wind and solar power, holds the key to addressing these issues head-on. One of the key advantages of green hydrogen is its potential to significantly contribute to the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
The roadmap outlines a comprehensive strategy that includes infrastructure development, research and development initiatives, and policy frameworks to encourage private-sector investment. It also emphasizes international collaboration, acknowledging that the transition to green hydrogen is a global effort.
The unveiling of the National Hydrogen Roadmap comes hot on the heels of the presentation of the Offshore Wind roadmap a fortnight ago.

OSL take:
Sri Lanka’s focus on green energy and commitment to achieve sustainable development goals have opened up new business/investment opportunities. The country’s power and energy industry present the highest number of business/investment opportunities in developing and implementing sustainable, green energy solutions. Since Sri Lanka is focused on becoming an emerging business destination in the South Asian region, there’s a steady growth in the opportunities in the field of green energy. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed by the country would ensure the steady expansion in the country’s power and energy industry. Given the growing business potential in the power and energy sector, foreign businesses/investors could explore the growing opportunities in the sector.
