Sri Lanka and Ukraine discuss enhancing tourism and economic ties

Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Regional Co-operation Tharaka Balasuriya has recently undertaken an official visit to Ukraine to participate in a campaign to promote tourism in Sri Lanka as well as to discuss the potential for enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries. The visit had taken place earlier in the month from 8-10 September, the State Ministry of Regional Cooperation has noted.
The State Minister has participated in a media and tour operator networking session during the Ukraine tour.
The event, which was organised by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, had attracted representatives from leading media and travel organisations in Ukraine and provided an important opportunity to highlight Sri Lanka’s tourist attractions, particularly emerging sights and travel experiences the country had to offer tourists from Ukraine.
State Minister Balasuriya had also met Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dymtro Senik, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Taras Kachka and the President of the Ukraine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gennediy Chyzhykov and members of the chamber. The discussions have focused mainly on means of further enhancing economic relations between the two countries, particularly in areas such as agriculture, ICT and tourism.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka is currently engaged in further expanding and strengthening the country’s bilateral and trade ties with foreign countries. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the continuously improving ease of doing business environment in the country have helped the country become an emerging business hub in the South Asian region. The country is also engaged in an aggressive development programme covering all key economic sectors and the resilience shown by the economy amidst pandemic challenges have presented the country’s business potential. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore the growing opportunities in Sri Lanka and also look at setting up base in Sri Lanka to engage with other countries.
