Sri Lanka Tourism to launch global promotional campaign and new logo at ITB Berlin next March

The government of Sri Lanka has announced that Sri Lanka Tourism will launch its global tourism promotional campaign as well as the newest logo at the world’s largest tourism trade fair, ITB Berlin next March.
The initiative is part of overall efforts to draw four million visitors and earn US$ 5 billion through tourism next year.
“The global promotional campaign along with our tourism logo ‘So Sri Lanka’ will be launched at the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) in Berlin next March as scheduled earlier,” Tourism Development Minister John Amaratunga has been quoted as saying.
He has also confirmed that it was the same logo which was launched in concurrence with the Digital Promotional Campaign at World Tourism Mart (WTM) in London.
According to Amaratunga, all the promotional initiatives were in limbo as a result of the political crisis which erupted since 26 October.
“All promotional campaigns are in limbo. We have to now roll them out again,” he has stated.
The Minister has also noted that Lonely Planet officials were to visit Sri Lanka to launch a fresh programme to showcase Sri Lanka, which too was delayed.
The Sri Lankan government has set out a very ambitious target of four million tourists for next year.
The Minister has said that it would only be possible if all stakeholders, particularly the officials of the line ministries and boards, supported the initiatives.

OSL take:

The new promotional campaign to be launched in Berlin next March will give a further boost to the continuously growing tourism industry. Also, the statement by the Tourism Development Minister that Lonely Planet officials were to visit Sri Lanka to launch a fresh programme to showcase Sri Lanka is an additional incentive for the country’s tourism sector. Given the growth recorded by Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, it is now a hotbed for investments and foreign businesses/investors could explore business/investment opportunities in the sector.
