Sri Lanka to set up land data infrastructure and information services system

Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers earlier this week had approved the setting up of a land data infrastructure and information services system with Korean funding worth US$ 60.3 million.

The project is reportedly to be subject to recommendations from the ICT Agency.
The government of Sri Lanka has stated that the establishment of the control network of the Department of Survey of Sri Lanka utilising novel technology would speed up the process of its survey activities and enhance productivity.
Accordingly, the requirement to establish a land information service system with modified infrastructure facilities has been identified to enable those who utilise the service to use those resources conveniently, Sri Lanka’s Government Information Department has noted.

OSL take:

There’s a growing potential in Sri Lanka for the introduction and implementation of digital infrastructure development programmes to various economic sectors in the country. The government of Sri Lanka is looking at networking and digitizing the key economic institutions in the country as well as transform towards an e-economy. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore business/investment opportunities in developing Sri Lanka’s ICT and digital infrastructure development sectors.
