Sri Lanka to launch nationwide publicity programme to promote organic fertilizer

The Sri Lankan government has reportedly decided to launch a nationwide publicity drive to educate masses on the benefits of the production and use of organic fertilizer.
The campaign is to be launched following the government’s policy decision to utilise organic and natural fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers for agriculture.
“There is an urgent requirement of an awareness program to be launched for the farmers and cultivators and other parties to educate the true situation in this regard,” local media has quoted the government as saying.
The Cabinet of Ministers has reportedly approved the proposal submitted by Sri Lanka’s Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage to launch the awareness programme across audio, visual, print, and digital media to educate the farming community, youth as well as other relevant parties.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s policy decision to transform the country’s agriculture in to one based on organic fertilizer has been hailed internationally. The move has also opened up many business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector. Sri Lanka is in need of meeting it’s annual fertilizer requirement as well as increase capacity for local production. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore opportunities in Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector as well as introduce new eco friendly good agriculture practices.
