Sri Lanka Tea Board to launch billion rupee international promotional campaigns
The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has reportedly approved a massive promotional campaign to be carried out by the Sri Lanka Tea Board (SLTB).
The SLTB has been called to come up with a strategic plan over the three months for Rs. 4.8 billion promotional campaign of the tea industry.
According to reports, promotions of the tea sector are still being worked out since the management is not happy in spending large sums on just one campaign without proper planning.
The SLTB has therefore requested for a three month time frame to come up with a strategic thinking of the campaign, the board’s Chairman Dr. Rohan Pethiyagoda has told the Business Times.
He has said that this time frame was required since the markets that were identified previously would not be needed today and as such they would need to accommodate the new media as well into the planning process.
The identified countries under the new tea promotion plan would be China, Japan, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Russia, the UK and the US, he has said adding that they were also trying to once again attract Pakistan as well.
The anticipated promotion campaign of the Sri Lanka Tea Board targeting the markets of China, Japan, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Russia, the UK and the US is expected to result in a boost in the local tea market. Investments in the tea industry would therefore yield profitable returns in the near future.
