Sri Lanka Retailers’ Association to hold country’s premier retail sector knowledge event on Thursday

The Sri Lanka Retailers’ Association (SLRA) is to hold the country’s premier retail sector knowledge event – Sri Lanka Retail Forum (SLRF) 2018 under the theme of ‘Towards a Dynamic and Evolving Retail Sector’.
SLRA has planned the event with a vision of ‘Achieving Retail Excellence.’
The Forum is set to take place this week at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, with the inauguration and networking with industry leaders taking place on Wednesday (17) followed by a full-day forum on Thursday (18).
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will attend the inauguration as the Chief Guest, and Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera will be the Chief Guest on Day 2 of the Retail Forum.
The local media reported that accounting for approximately one-third of Sri Lanka’s GDP, the retail sector is a large contributor to the economy, therein laying a huge potential for economic growth resulting from achieving retail excellence.
Also, shopping and retailing is a significant factor which affects the preferability of Sri Lanka as a tourist destination.
The two industries work in parallel and the tourism-retail nexus is to be explored at SLRF 2018.
According to reports, SLRF 2018 also seeks to energize the maturing retail industry and provide solutions to struggling sectors, to reach the untapped potential of Sri Lanka as a retail hub, which consists of a two billion plus extended market population in the neighbouring region and as such, this forum will stage a common goal, at the regional, national, industrial, and corporate levels.
Reports further state that SLRF 2018 brings together the best across the globe, with 18 resource persons lined up, nine of which are foreign experts who are presently in the regional retail conference circuit and seasoned in the global retail ecosystem.
This provides the forum a balanced perspective, with insights to the local retailers on international trends.
