Sri Lanka receives ADB support for proposed Trade Finance Programme

Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director for Sri Lanka Chen Chen and the ADB’s Trade Finance team has recently met with Sri Lanka’s Trade and Samurdhi Development Minister Shehan Semasinghe.
During the meeting, the ADB has reportedly assured support to further strengthen investor confidence in Sri Lanka under the Trade Finance Programme.
The ADB delegation has also reiterated to the Minister that it was important to liaise with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and had affirmed its willingness to coordinate with IMF as necessary on ADB’s project portfolio in Sri Lanka.
The ADB delegation had also highlighted their continued support for Sri Lanka’s development efforts.

Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean, the ongoing development programme and the many trade ties enjoyed by the country continue to expand the business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. Given the growing business potential in the country, foreign bilateral and multilateral financial institutions continue to express support to Sri Lanka by extending financial assistance and expertise to the country’s development agenda. Due to the confidence expressed by foreign financial institutions on Sri Lanka and the availability of funds, foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the growing opportunities in Sri Lanka’s development programme.
