Sri Lanka Railways launches online booking system to facilitate reservations for pensioners

The Sri Lanka Railway Department has launched an online booking system in a bid to facilitate the reservation of railway seats for pensioners with railway warrants.
In the past, the Railway Department has in the past reserved seats for pensioners on the recommendation of the Grama Niladhari of the area and the approval of the Divisional Secretary, but the lengthy procedure had greatly inconvenienced the retired public servants.
However, under the new system, pensioners will be able to book their seats by providing the NIC number and other details online or any railway station.
The service commenced last week at the Fort Railway Station under the patronage of Sri Lanka’s Minister of Transport, Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera.

OSL take:

Sri Lankan authorities are looking at converting the country in to an e-economy. This has resulted in the expansion of business opportunities in Sri Lanka’s ICT and digital infrastructure development sectors. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore business opportunities in Sri Lanka’s ICT and digital infrastructure development sectors since it is a requirement of all key economic sectors.
