EconomyNext: Sri Lanka plans four development projects in Kandy to ease traffic congestion and city infrastructure, the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development announced in a press release.
The projects will be centred around the Getambe Flyover, Mahaiyawa Underpass, William Gopallawa Mawatha, and Louis Peiris Mawatha.
The Central Province Development Programme will implement the project.
Prasanna Gunasena, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, and K.D Lal Kantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation carried out field inspections of the project sites on July 15, 2026.
“The Getambe Flyover project, which resumed in February 2025 after being delayed due to political, administrative, and financial issues, is expected to ease heavy traffic on the Peradeniya–Kandy and Gannoruwa–Kandy roads,” the government said in a statement.
