Sri Lanka participates in World Furniture Expo 2024 in Mumbai
Daily FT: The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai facilitated the participation of Sri Lanka in the World Furniture Expo (WOFX) 2024 from 5 to 7 December 2024 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre.
Acting Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai Shirani Ariyarathne attended the event as one of the special guests of the opening ceremony of the Expo.
The WOFX is an international furniture and design expo, showcasing the global and domestic furniture industry. Over 200 exhibitors from India and other countries showcased their latest contemporary and luxury furniture collections.
Acting Consul General Ariyarathne participated in the inaugural ceremony and a VIP tour which provided an exclusive overview of the exhibits. She engaged in discussions with prominent importers and exporters, trade body representatives, and industry experts.
The Sri Lankan booth was inaugurated by the Acting Consul General along with the organisers of the WOFX and other distinguished guests. Participants and VIP guests engaged in meaningful B2B sessions, exchanging ideas and exploring potential collaborations with the participating Sri Lankan furniture company.
The Sri Lankan exhibitor that participated in the WOFX expressed that their participation was successful in securing new business connections, and recommended Sri Lanka’s participation in future editions of the WOFX.

The steady growth in Sri Lanka’s manufacturing industry is evident by the increase in the promotional activities including the participation in foreign exhibitions. The country’s manufacturing industry has shown resilience even amidst the economic crisis experienced by Sri Lanka in the past few years and is aggressively engaged in promoting the industry in old and new foreign markets. The many trade agreements and trade concessions enjoyed by Sri Lanka with many foreign countries and the move to further expand trade ties to include more foreign countries to the list. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s expanding economy, especially in the manufacturing industry. The increasing business potential in Sri Lanka’s manufacturing industry is evident by the growth and profits recorded by local businesses in the industry and the expansion programmes undertaken by them.
