Sri Lanka to host 32nd Joint Meeting of UNWTO’s Commission for East Asia, Pacific and South Asia

Sri Lanka is to host the 32nd Joint Meeting of UN World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO’s) Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UNWTO Commission for South Asia from June 29 to July 1 in Colombo.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) is currently in the process of organising the conference, local media reports state.
According to reports, the theme of the conference is Contemporary Challenges and Tourism Revitalization aimed at discussing how to revitalise tourism in response to the times of crisis and share effective crisis management tools and examples for the tourism sector and its industries.
Approximately 150 foreign delegates representing member states are set to participate in this conference and the invitees include Tourism Ministers of the Member States, top government officials and other representatives from the global tourism industry.
“We look forward to welcoming the top government delegates to Sri Lanka and showcase our products and services at this conference,” Sri Lanka Tourism Chairperson Kimarli Fernando has been quoted as saying.

The hosting of UNWTO conferences in Sri Lanka will help the country’s tourism industry receive a boost before the international community. Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is on a continuous growth path with tourist arrivals to the country also recording an increase. Sri Lanka continues to be listed as a must visit destination by many globally renowned travel publications resulting in many international brand names showing interest in entering the local leisure and hospitality market.
