Sri Lanka High Commission, Colombo Port City promotes investment in Malaysia

Daily FT: The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur conducted a series of investment promotion activities in Malaysia in collaboration with Colombo Port City in February and March 2025.
These initiatives aimed to strengthen economic ties, attract Malaysian investors, and showcase Sri Lanka’s investment potential.
Sri Lankan Acting High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur M.I. Mohamed Rizvi formally introduced Colombo Port City to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) of Malaysia and held a meeting with MITI Deputy Minister Chin Tong Liew. During the discussion, key investment opportunities in Colombo Port City were introduced.
Further, the importance of addressing Sri Lanka’s trade imbalance with Malaysia by encouraging greater Malaysian investment in Sri Lanka’s growing economy was emphasised.
Moreover, the High Commission organised Business-to-Business (B2B) sessions with the Malaysia-Sri Lanka Business Council (MSLBC) and engaged with the Malaysian-Ceylonese business community. These sessions provided a platform for direct engagement with potential investors and to highlight the benefits of investing in Colombo Port City.

OSL take:
Sri Lanka’s Port City project is expected to take Sri Lanka to the next level of development. With Sri Lanka on the path to becoming a hub in the South Asian region supported by the country’s strategic positioning in the Indian Ocean and the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed with other countries, the country is fast becoming an emerging business destination with foreign businesses/investors showing renewed interest in Sri Lanka. It is in such a backdrop that Sri Lanka is promoting investment opportunities in foreign countries with the Colombo Port City project also playing a key role as an investment with much business potential. Given the importance placed on Sri Lanka by many foreign countries including China, which has figured the country prominently in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), foreign businesses/investors could explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in the country.
